SUPPORT THE EXHIBITION

Why support the Musée du Luxembourg?

1-An ideal cultural venue

The Musée du Luxembourg reopens its doors
In 2010, the Senate delegated the management of the Museum to the Public Establishment of the RMN and Grand Palais des Champs-Elysées (RMN-Grand Palais), one of the world’s leading exhibition organisers. Together they are committed to developing an ambitious cultural policy for the general public. In this context, RMN-Grand Palais is seeking the support of corporate partners, who appreciate the excellent cultural programme and the unique setting of the Musée du Luxembourg.

One Museum, One History
The Musée du Luxembourg was the first French museum to open to the public, in 1750. Then, in 1818, it became the first museum of contemporary art. Its history is closely linked with the Palais du Luxembourg, where it was first housed, and with the Senate which, in 1884, commissioned the construction of the current building. Since 2000, the Musée du Luxembourg has revived these historical links as the Senate once more oversees its management.

Renovated spaces in keeping with the heritage and ecological nature of the environment
The RMN-Grand Palais commissioned the architects Shigeru Ban and Jean de Gastines to create two temporary exterior structures: the museum restaurant area, and an area for educational workshops during the day and private events in the evening. It has also invited the architects to continue their work by renovating and refurbishing interior spaces. With private tours in the mornings and receptions in the evening, these new structures will provide opportunities to enjoy exclusive access to the exhibitions and the museum, offering an ideal location for hosting your events (up to 350 persons).

2 - An ambitious cultural policy for all

An original programme directed towards cultural democratisation
The Musée du Luxembourg is organising exhibitions to interest all visitors, with three programmes on themes linked to its history: “The Renaissance in Europe”, “Art and Power” and “Palace, Gardens and Museum: the Luxembourg in the heart of Paris, capital of the arts”.

The “ML” for all
Exhibitions at the Musée du Luxembourg are designed to appeal all audiences: schools, children and young people, families, art lovers, tourists, disabled visitors…

Through its activities, its exacting yet popular programme, and its policy on admission fees, the “ML” reflects the Senate’s overriding commitment to make this cultural venue accessible and available to everyone.

A network of museums in Paris, in the provinces and abroad
The RMN-GP, delegated by the Senate to manage the Musée du Luxembourg, produces, coproduces or organises around thirty temporary exhibitions every year at the Galeries Nationales du Grand Palais and in other museums in France and abroad. The Musée du Luxembourg itself lays particular emphasis on developing relationships with French regional museums.
